It is commonly shortlisted where a smooth face, precise profile and controlled painted or factory-coated result are important. The trade name alone does not define the supplied board: origin, grade, moisture condition, finished size, profile and supporting documentation should all appear in the quotation.
Ask for representative samples in the proposed coating and surface preparation. A small uncoated offcut cannot show how the full system will look across several elevations, or how colour, sheen, joints and fixings will work together. A joined sample panel is more useful for design approval, particularly on entrances, homes and closely viewed commercial façades.
The commercial comparison should cover installed area rather than board price alone. Finished cover width, length mix, coating, trims, fixings, delivery and the treatment of site cuts can materially change the scope even when two quotations use the same species.
